This document outlines Bitwarden policies on maintaining support for:
Software releases: The versions of Bitwarden servers, client applications, APIs, and other integrations or modules that are supported.
Platforms: The versions of hardware and software platforms that are supported for Bitwarden servers, client applications, etc. to run on.
This document will also, where applicable, list the minimum versions or models supported.

As a security company building a globally trusted product, Bitwarden maintains up-to-date and relevant software versions for all of our user base, making them widely available and easy to access. The Bitwarden team recognizes the need for balance between pushing forward new features on newer systems and relinquishing support for older systems that may no longer serve users' security requirements.
Bitwarden cloud servers are operated and maintained directly by Bitwarden. We update cloud servers regularly and post updates at status.bitwarden.com.
Support for Bitwarden self-hosted servers is available for a duration of 3 major releases following the initial release. For example, when 2024.4.0
is released 2023.12.0
ceases to be supported.
note
This means that self-hosting users may be required to update their server to stay current on Bitwarden features and support, and remain compatible with the latest released clients.
Support for client applications is available for a duration of 3 major releases following the initial release. For example, when 2024.4.0
is released 2023.12.0
ceases to be supported.
note
This means that users may be required to update their client applications to stay current on Bitwarden features and support, and remain compatible with the latest cloud or self-hosted server release.
Bitwarden API release cycles and durations align with the Bitwarden server. As a practice, we aim to provide backwards compatibility to APIs indefinitely through semantic versioning.
However, if we add enhancements that make it difficult or impossible to maintain backwards compatibility to all prior versions, we will indicate that by incrementing the major version number.
